Empowering Research Through Joint Activities

Joint activities are designed to foster collaboration, boost skills, and drive cutting-edge research across borders and disciplines. PCPSCE organizes the following events, offers divers grants and will produce various deliverables over the next four years:

3 Conferences | 3 Summer Training Schools | 3 DH-Training Schools

All events will rotate across Action countries, with a special focus on Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITCs)—and every event will be available in a hybrid format to ensure maximum accessibility!

Springing into Action: Annual Conferences

Each Action year kicks off with a Spring Conference, hosted by one of our specialised Working Groups. These conferences dive deep into topics aligned with the WG’s objectives, starting with WG 3 “Public and Legal Spheres” and wrapping up with WG 5 “Text and Ideas”.

Summer Training Schools: Expanding one’s Horizons

Mid-year, PCPSCE organizes Summer Training Schools, tailored for Young Researchers and Innovators (YRIs) from within and beyond the Action.

These schools focus on Data Collection & Methods, Theory & Analysis and Innovative Concepts & Methodologies

DH-Training Schools: Sharpening one’s Skills

The Action year concludes with a DH-Training School led by WG 2 “Data and Tools”. Open to PCPSCE members from all disciplines, these sessions will enhance methodological and practical competencies in using diverse Digital Humanities (DH) resources.

OUTPUT: Tangible Results You Can Use

Alongside activities and grants, PCPSCE delivers concrete outputs—peer-facing publications and regular updates that share insights, methods, and outcomes across the network.

Edited Volume “The Handpress World of Habsburg Central Europe”

The volume examines how fully scholarship has mapped the book history of the Habsburg Monarchy in the handpress era (15th–19th centuries), a field still fragmented by linguistic and national boundaries. Bringing together fifteen expert chapters in English, it offers the first critical region-wide overview and provides a foundation for more explicitly transnational research ahead of its planned publication in 2027.

Compendium “Print Culture Public Spheres in Central Europe (1450–1800)”

A central goal of this COST Action is the compendium Print Culture and Public Spheres in Central Europe (1450–1800), an international and interdisciplinary collaboration involving around 80 authors from 21 countries and 11 disciplines. Covering Central Europe and adjacent connected regions, the volume offers a broad, innovative perspective on print, public spheres, and book history, and is planned for publication in 2029.
